Radio Alchemy was originally a 24/7 internet radio station which also was a dba of Sanctuary of Mana Ke'a Gardens and is listed as the licensee on the FCC filing. When papers were filed with the FCC for an LPFM construction permit, our frequency (100.5) and call letters (KONA) were approved.
The focus of the project became the LPFM project and how we could get on the air. It was decided that Radio Alchemy would become a Radio Segment from 7 PM til 1 AM 7 days per week. But its overall impact goes beyond merely a radio show because it has the ability to become a remote station who's programing is not dependent on a Central Broadcast facility. Think of it this way, KONA 100.5 with it's antenna and transmitter located on Hiolani Street in KONA is the Cocoon where programming is relayed and broadcast. Radio Alchemy is the Butterfly that can outsource its programming from virtually anywhere on the Big Island, and even word wide if desired. For practical purposes, it allows our DJ's to be doing their shows routinely from their home studios around the Island. It also gives us the freedom to broadcast from live events such as festivals, bars or concerts. Even public meets, such as the recent visit by U.S. Representative, Tulsi Gabbard to Kealakehe Intermediate school, can be received, uploaded and broadcast over KONA 100.5 LPFM. This segment of programming is intended to be used for music. The vision that I have for it, is to have 7 locations from around the Big Island where programs can originate =7 days per week. This way, the entire island can become involved in the project and does not limit itself only to Kailua-Kona.
